​Exam Application Steps​

 a) If you are completing the NJ 75-Hour Course​

Step 1: Complete the NJ 75-Hour Real Estate Course
After successfully completing the 75-hour New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson Pre-Licensing Course, the student will receive a
​Certificate of Completion.

Step 2: Create a Pennsylvania Exam Account
Go to the Pennsylvania exam application portal:

Create an account and enter your required personal information.

Step 3: Start Your Application
After creating your account, select “Apply Now.”
When asked “Don’t see your exam type?”, proceed to the available exam options.

Step 4: Select the Exam Components
You will see three options:
  • State
  • National
  • Both
Select “Both” to apply for both the National and State portions of the Pennsylvania real estate examination.

Step 5: Upload Your NJ Course Certificate
Scroll down to the Supporting Documents section.
Upload your 75-hour New Jersey Real Estate Course Certificate of Completion.

Step 6: Submit Your Application
Review the information and uploaded document to make sure everything is correct, then click “Submit.”

Note: Keep a copy of your 75-hour NJREI Certificate of Completion for your records. The Pennsylvania licensing authority will determine whether your education documentation satisfies the applicable requirements.

b) If You Already Hold an Active NJ Real Estate License

An active NJ license can change the Pennsylvania examination requirement. Pennsylvania states that an applicant who has been actively licensed as a salesperson or broker in another state within the previous five years may qualify to take only the Pennsylvania portion of the salesperson examination rather than both the National and Pennsylvania portions. 
Recommended steps:
  1. Confirm your NJ license is currently active.
    Your active out-of-state license must generally fall within the applicable five-year period.
  2. Obtain proof of your NJ license status.
    You may need a current license history/good-standing documentation from the New Jersey Real Estate Commission to establish your active licensing status.
  3. Apply through Pennsylvania's licensing system.
    Create/sign into your account through the Pennsylvania licensing portal and select the appropriate Real Estate Salesperson – Standard application route. Pennsylvania's current licensing guide directs applicants through the PALS system. 
  4. Register for the Pennsylvania examination.
    If Pennsylvania confirms that your active NJ license qualifies for the out-of-state examination provision, you generally take only the Pennsylvania State portion of the salesperson examination. 
  5. Complete the remaining PA licensing requirements.
    After passing the required examination, complete the Pennsylvania application and documentation requirements, including affiliation with an eligible Pennsylvania employing broker.
